Crataegus monogyna makes an excellent rootstock for grafting named hawthorn varieties onto. Also can be grown on it's own making a very ornamental mid sized tree with its lovely white flowers in spring followed by an abundance of bright red medicinally used berries in the fall.. Traditionally used as a hedge plant in the British Isles. We dry large amounts of it's fruit every fall to make heart tonic teas and tinctures throughout the year..
