The English Oak (Quercus robur fastigiata) is a very fast growing upright oak specie that produces large elongated high quality nuts. Beautiful long lived trees are adaptable to a wide range of soil and moisture conditions. The hard wood is prized for furniture and other uses and the trees were traditionally often coppiced or pollarded to give renewable harvests of small diameter wood for tool handles. Pollarded trees can also be very productive of excellent logs to grow Shiitake and other culinary and medicinal mushrooms on. Hardy zones 5-9.
